WOODKID - WASTELAND

While I'm at it, here's another song by this Frenchman who's got a tiny tinge of Irish accent. Pay attention to the lyrics (see below). It seems that Yoann Lemoine, aka Woodkid, started out as a music video and film director. Then he moved on to music itself. A jack-of-all-trade and master of quite a few. Here's the link to his website.

Most of my sweet memories were buried in the sand
The fire and the pain will now be coming to an end
How did you get to save me from this desolate wasteland?
In your eyes I see the dawn of brighter days again.

With my tears you washed away the mud stuck on my hands
All the things you're trying to do make me a better man
Now I remember the joy and the taste of candy cane
The innocence of youth and the sound of major scales.

Most of what I used to be had vanished in the waves
The memories of the boy I've been were drowning and you saved them
Now I remember the joy and the meaning of the fate
The color of the truth and the sound of sunny days.

Most of my sweet memories were buried in the sand
The fire and the pain will now be coming to an end
How did you get to save me from this desolate wasteland?
In your eyes I see the dawn of brighter days again.

WOODKID - Brooklyn

I highly recommend listening to this EP. Great artist.

WOODKID - Iron

For once, music and images match. Great video.

"Iron" is also the theme song for the new Assassin's Creed game, "Revelations". I recommend listening to all of the AC games' soundtrack, all done by Jesper Kyd (my personal favourite remains the second soundtrack). They are quite amazing, as are the games.

Underneath are the lyrics to the song...enjoy!

Deep in the ocean, dead and cast away,
Where innocence is burned, in flames.
A million mile from home, I'm walking ahead.
I'm frozen to the bones, I am.

A soldier on my own, I don't know the way.
I'm riding up the heights, of shame.
I'm waiting for the call, the hand on the chest.
I'm ready for the fight, and fate.

The sound of iron shots is stuck in my head.
The thunder of the drums, dictates
The rhythm of the falls, the number of deaths,
The rising of the horns, ahead.

From the dawn of time to the end of days,
I will have to run, away.
I want to feel the pain and the bitter taste
Of the blood on my lips, again.

This steady burst of snow is burning my hands.
I'm frozen to the bones, I am.
A million mile from home, I'm walking away.
I can't remind your eyes, your face.

Agnes Obel - Riverside (official)

I have just discovered this great artist. The video was made by her boyfriend, so it seems...nice couple, isn't it?

Smashing Pumpkins - Soothe

Root-quoting

"The more I look into the crowd, the more I feel alone."

Yodelice, song "Alone" on the album Tree of Life (2009).

____________

"And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever."

Genesis, 3:22, King James version.

____________

"As these words part with my tongue,
I wonder why they're even sung."

Ben Harper, song "Alone" on the album Burn to Shine (1999)

____________

“We're born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we're not alone.”

Orson Welles, American actor, director, producer, writer (1915-1985)

____________

"Joe's rule number two: If you have to leave a party, you always take a traveler."

Can't remember which character, Joe perhaps, in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997)

____________

“I told you the truth,” I say yet again, “Memory’s truth, because memory has its own special kind. It selects, eliminates, alters, exaggerates, minimizes, glorifies, and vilifies also; but in the end it creates its own reality, its heterogeneous but usually coherent versions of events; and no sane human being ever trusts someone else’s version more than his own.”

Salman Rushdie, Midnight's Children (1981)

I could go on like this forever it seems...this is how I react to pretty much anything - come to think of it, everybody must react in much the same way too. Pandemonium set loose in the mind, or root-quoting as I call it affectionately. Hence the title.

Always bear in mind, though, that it's the first quote that triggered the avalanche.

Bon vent !

Changement de lieu : La pointe St-Gildas.

Pas de la neige...les vagues se brisent violemment sur les rochers, moussent et forment beaucoup d'écume qui, avec les bourrasques, se répand en flocons cotonneux.
